One of my previous managers one day came to work. He seemed in a very good mood and called me to his office.
He said he had just handed in his resignation and he felt great about it. That morning as he was driving to work, he came to the realisation that he was free to do what he wanted. He had not been happy for a while and work had been taken a toll on him.
This sudden realisation was a revelation and also relief to him.
His recognised that he had the power to change his situation. He did it and never looked back. I’m sure he still looks back at that situation with a smile.
The freedom of having a choice
Why am I telling you this? It’t easy to feel trapped in a job, to get home every evening and feel frustrated. It’s easy to feel like money makes up for any situation. It’s easy to forget what you want. But it’s difficult to make a change. It’s difficult to think about what could be next, what could come after this (golden cage).
But understanding, that instead you have a choice, is freeing. This involves a shift in perspective from feeling trapped to seeing the situation from a different angle. And with this reframing the problem.
Sometimes just knowing this fact can help. Knowing that you’re not trapped after all.
But if you are rather looking for that career change and want to understand what a next step could be, why not get in touch and I can help you figure this out.
