Your daily distractions

I really hate smart phones.

On a packed train this week I noticed how absolutely EVERY single passenger was staring at their phones.

I felt like observing people trying to escape the reality around them. As if the phone offered a level of comfort or distraction that the outside world did not offer.

I’m tired of social media companies (which basically all belong to a handful of billionaires) driving our lives. And them running on our FOMO and dictating everything from what we buy to whom we elect. And so many people believe those daily distractions mean something.

Consumerism as a way out of doom scrolling makes me really tired. And this resulting in momentary moments of happiness that fade as quickly as they came and that only help us kill this planet even faster.

Don’t we need a radical shift in how we do things?

Even the way we work is a remnant of the industrial revolution. No wonder so many people are tired, exhausted, frustrated. So many wonder if that is all there is to life?

My initial idea for Press Pause was simply to support you in re-learning how much ‘doing nothing’ can give you. Because, let’s face it, can you really just ‘be’ 15 minutes at a time without doing anything?

I find it so hard ..
as the great Oscar Wilde once said, ‘It’s awfully hard work doing nothing’. But that’s what you need if you don’t want to give in to all these daily distractions.

But it’s those moments of nothingness where clarity emerges, where we solve problems, and in which we find inspiration.

No self-help book, no social media, no podcast, no video can give you what is already there: The power to choose which thoughts to believe, and the freedom to create a life that aligns with your truth.

But as long as you give in to constant distractions, this future won’t happen.
