Why you need to delegate

Most managers struggle with delegating.

It’s one of the most effective approaches to free up time in your busy calendar, but most managers find it difficult to delegate.

Are you one of them?

Answer this question (which I copied from an HBR article – linked below): If you had to take an unexpected week off work, would your initiatives and priorities advance in your absence?

If you answer this with no, then you are holding on to too much work, and it’s high time to engage your team.

What is keeping you from delegating?

  • Do you feel you’re the only one who can do the task?
  • Do you think your team members are not up to the task?
  • Do you worry someone might steal the limelight?

Be aware of where this leads you. As a manager, you cannot be involved in all tactical work. You may believe that it shows effort and resilience, but the truth is, you won’t be able to keep up with the ever-growing working hours, your tasks, and responsibilities.

Your focus needs to be on the tasks that help you achieve your goals as a manager/leader/executive.

Failing to delegate not only leads you to be overwhelmed, but it also frustrates your team – they want to contribute and take on responsibilities.

Delegate, free up time, and do the things that advance your goals.

It’s worth it. Are you looking for support to accomplish this? I’m happy to help.
