Do you know what you are proud of right now? I remember getting together with friends when I was in my late 20s. One of them was older than me and was wondering if his career choices were the right ones.
And so I was asked, “What do you really want to do?”
I didn’t know what to say.
I felt good about what I was doing. Sure, it lacked excitement, but maybe that’s just being an adult, I thought.
What do I really want to do? I didn’t know what to say.
But my friends insisted. You’ll be in your 30s soon – there won’t be much time to get it right.
Get what right? I remember thinking. The right job? The right salary? The right people around me? The right career path? What do I need to set in motion?
It was a mystery to me.
Have you ever noticed how conversations or thoughts about your career always point to a future event? Something you should do differently, change, improve, plan carefully?
It’s like chasing a moving target while the present moment slips through your fingers.
What is there now rarely seems to be enough.
Have you ever asked your friend, “What is the joy you experience in your work?”, “What are you proud of?
What is there right now, in this moment?
Because that’s all we really ever have.
And if you want to know – ‘what is’ there right now is exactly what I’m helping my clients see.
