Do you want to be a better leader?
‘Your need for acceptance can make you invisible’ – Jim Carrey I came across this video of Jim Carrey giving a speech at a university and it rang so true.
Clients sometimes want more authenticity. Well, more often it’s wanting to work on ‘who am I supposed to be’. It’s a wish for a map to become a better version of yourself.
It is driven by the fear of not being enough, of not being good enough in comparison to others, of not being inspiring enough, of not being up to the task.
And by hiding their unique, true self.
It’s always about lacking something and believing in something better.
The reversal, the realisation that there’s no need for constant tweaking, improvement and change to become a better leader, is the real breakthrough.
This is the essence of Leading Beyond the Self.
Seeing that you are enough, right now is incredibly freeing and relieving. It’s the basis of authentic leadership. It’s also what’s at the heart of my work.
But what does it really mean to see that you are enough? It’s not about complacency or stagnation. Or about recognising the inherent value that already resides within you. It’s understanding that your unique perspective, your experiences, your flaws, and your strengths all contribute to your authentic leadership.
But it’s about dropping the mask, the persona, the constant striving for an idealised version of yourself, and embracing the leader you are today. It’s from this place of acceptance that true growth and impactful leadership emerge.
