Overthinking – the end of it?

There is one major change that I’ve noticed in the past 12 months. I am no longer overthinking. The constant mental chatter is gone.

I don’t remember how I got to this realisation, but it must have been around an event that would have triggered me in the past.

Last week I ‘stumbled’ upon an excerpt from an interview with Sam Harris in which he says something to the likes of “You don’t even know what your next thought is going to be. So why do you let it weigh so heavily?”

Even science can’t exactly explain where thoughts come from.

So why let them influence you? Why let them tell you a story about yourself that you could as well unravel?

What exactly did I do to stop overthinking? I’ll share more about my experience in a future post.

But a first step was considering thoughts as something that just comes and goes and having the freedom to ignore them. The literal cloud, or the rain that comes on a sunny day. There’s nothing you can do about it. And getting angry over it won’t make it any better.

Perhaps this is a good analogy for you? Think about the rain on that sunny day. It comes and it will disappear again, in between you can enjoy it or just watch it. But you certainly cannot change it.

More quality to life, being more present, focused, at ease –
