Stuck at work?

Stuck in a bad work situation? It’s not your employer’s job to pull you out.

If you find yourself in an unhappy work situation, chances are your employer won’t change it for you.

Have an honest talk with yourself.

If you feel you’re:

  • overworked
  • not taken seriously
  • stuck (i.e. in uncertainty about your employment)

it’s high time for you to take action. Don’t wait.

Waiting is the biggest waste of time in the corporate world. Don’t expect your surroundings to change for you; it won’t happen.

Take action.

You have the agency to improve the situation you’re in today! End your day with a sigh of relief, not with angst.

What are your options?

  • Start by putting a plan on paper: Define what needs to change, be specific. For example, “I need to reduce from 5 to 3 projects, I need a 1:1 with my boss every week.”
  • Define a timeline: Hold yourself accountable and work towards milestones and deadlines. For example, “By tomorrow, I will have delegated xyz. By the end of next week I’m no longer part of project x”
  • Communicate this with your boss, team, and peers. It’s not only about showing vulnerability but also demonstrating your ability to initiate change, and creating a culture of support and clarity around your needs and boundaries.
  • Get support: Talk to a mentor, or a coach.

Change is not an option, it’s a responsibility. To yourself, to the work you’re meant to do and to the leader you’re meant to become.

The next move is yours. What will it be?
