Silence

Silence is not something mythical, it’s not about meditating and it shouldn’t be an aspiration only.

It’s right here. Available to you.

Instead of going on a spa weekend or looking for a self-help video on YouTube you might as well try silence for repeated moments at a time.
It can be uncomfortable, but it can be so insightful.

And it pushes most people’s comfort zone. FOMO hits hard when you’re supposed to do nothing.

Just look around when you’re not alone, everyone is constantly doing something. Staring at their phone, or screen, typing, listening, reading, talking – and yes, I know, when you’re at work you’re supposed to do work.

But have you ever wondered what you could achieve if you took 10 minutes out of your busy schedule to yourself?

If you gave up on the idea of having to complete everything?
10 minutes in your day to do nothing, to be silent.
Repeatedly. And to reflect on what comes up.

I sometimes do this in coaching sessions with my clients, especially while on a walk. That’s pushing comfort zones.

Plenty space for important insights – every single time.

These insights aren’t abstract theories; they’re the keys to unlocking clarity, reducing stress, and making more intentional decisions. They’re the moments when the noise of the mind quiets, and the deeper wisdom within has room to speak. And that wisdom, that clarity, is far more valuable than any self-help video or spa weekend could ever be. It’s the foundation for sustainable leadership, for authentic connection, and for a life lived with greater ease and purpose.

Think of it this way: your mind is like a busy marketplace, filled with vendors shouting their wares. The constant noise, the competing demands, it’s overwhelming. But silence is like stepping into a quiet courtyard within that marketplace. It’s a space where you can hear yourself think, where you can connect with your own intuition, where you can access a deeper level of understanding.

When you practice silence, you’re not escaping from reality; you’re becoming more present to it. You’re learning to distinguish between the urgent and the important, between the noise of the mind and the wisdom of the heart. You’re developing the ability to navigate the complexities of life with greater ease and grace.

This isn’t about becoming a monk or abandoning your responsibilities. It’s about integrating moments of stillness into your everyday life. It’s about recognizing that true productivity isn’t about doing more, but about being more. And being more requires space, requires silence.

So, the next time you feel overwhelmed by the demands of your day, try this: take 10 minutes to do nothing. Just sit, or walk, or simply be. And notice what arises. Notice the thoughts, the feelings, the sensations. And then, let them go. Let them pass like clouds in the sky.

You might be surprised by what you discover. You might discover a sense of peace you didn’t know was possible. You might discover a clarity that transforms your decision-making. And you might discover a connection to yourself, and to the world around you, that deepens your experience of life in profound ways.
