Growing up in the beautiful town of Zermatt, I’ve always been in awe at the presence of mountains. How to treat it with respect, but also how to find quiet moments in it when life seemed overwhelming.
As children, we would hike in the summer, ski in the winter and roam the forests whenever we felt like it. We were outdoors as much as possible.
Zermatt is not only home to the famous Matterhorn, it’s also surrounded by many of the highest peaks in Europe.
I’ve always felt that if you take a moment to be fully present and marvel at the mountains, you feel how powerful their presence can be, how grounding.
It can put things into perspective. Still nowadays I love going on hikes and taking moments to just be and wonder or marvel at nature around me. There is something so magnificent, yet also peaceful about it, it’s hard to put into words. Something to experience yourself.
It’s not a realisation of our insignificance, but rather one of connectedness. One of pure ‘being present’.
And for me it’s not about disconnecting from technology or devices, it’s about reconnecting with the present moment.
