The other day I wrote about a common theme in my work – the fundamental need for human connection.
It’s a universal desire, regardless of who you are.
I also posted this on my LinkedIn account and someone commented that often the “biggest ones” get overlooked.
This holds true, especially in industries where discussions about human connection and leadership are rare. It’s almost like it’s an elephant in the room, an essential but seldom addressed aspect of our professional lives.
Take, for instance, a new hire’s experience. A warm welcome and a sense of being cared for can make a world of difference. Feeling like part of a team and a valued member of the organisation can boost motivation and commitment.
It’s about being part of the tribe.
Myself I have worked many years in one of the big banks. 15 years to be exact. I recall conversations revolving around psychological safety and onboarding. However, discussions about human qualities were noticeably absent.
It’s mostly about results, delivery, goals, return, money, bonus etc. In the end even goals are set so, that individual results are what matter. Not the team results.
If we aspire to achieve improved results and outcomes for our businesses, we mustn’t overlook the importance of well-being. True well-being inherently incorporates a human touch.
