Not to walk away from conflicts is one of the qualities that could be on the list of “top qualities for you as a leader”. And coaching can be an effective tool to help you to become stronger in this.
Don’t run away from conflicts in your team if you’re the leader. Don’t turn your back on those either. And don’t tell your team members to work it out themselves.
Like it or not, as a leader, your team looks to you for guidance and expects you to address these concerns.
The thing is, not solving conflicts in the team will result in a bad outcome. Be it frustration, lack of motivation, bad mood. In any case it will be detrimental to reaching any goals you have set.
Conflict management is an essential skill for anyone in a leadership position. And you don’t have to go through any complex processes to solve conflicts or problems.
With listening, empathy and the ability to make decisions, you have a path to conflict resolution. And if that’s not possible, there are professionals who can support you.
As with everything your daily life, it’s a decision you take. Do you step in and solve the problem, or do you turn around and prioritise other things? In the end it’s about taking the responsibility that come with your role.
Resolving conflicts as soon as they appear will have benefits. You will contribute to better communication and understanding within the team. You will prevent conflicts and bad moods to take over. And you will be respected even more.
