I used to be critical of coaching until I had my first session myself. Just like me, you may have been wondering if coaching is backed up by science? Does it do anything? Yes, and here are 3 examples.
Neuroscience explains what happens in your brain during coaching:
- Frontal Lobes Engagement: Coaching engages the frontal lobes of the brain, which is responsible for complex functions like decision-making, planning, and goal setting. This engagement enhances the ability to form and pursue goals effectively.
- Dopamine Production and Goal Achievement: Goal setting and achievement in coaching are linked to the production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure, reward, and motivation.
- Enhancing Neuroplasticity: Coaching can facilitate neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to change and adapt as a result of experience. This includes strengthening pathways between different brain regions, enhancing cognitive flexibility, and improving problem-solving skills.
