I recently listened to a coaching session with Rich Litvin on YouTube (always valuable to learn how other coaches conduct client conversations).
Rich starts the session by asking a question: What would make this a successful conversation? To which the client says he wants more clarity. Rich follows up with an interesting remark: Is clarity something we need to have at the beginning to achieve our goals? Or is it something that emerges as a result, once we have reached our goals?
This resonates with many of my clients who often want to work on clarity. Together, we explore what clarity means to them. And that’s when clients realise, clarity has more to do with their values, desires, and intentions.
Sometimes, it’s a matter of guiding clients to ask themselves the right questions or helping them to articulate their thoughts.
It’s not about having all the answers at first. Rather about gaining clarity along the way.
