My neighbour was cutting the lawn as I walked home yesterday. The smell of freshly cut grass immediately took me back to my grandparents in Finland.
They had a manual lawn mower, and I was always in love with the idea of moving the lawn as much as possible. I don’t know why.
To me, it’s the smell of summer and it will always stay with me.
But this experience also made me realise how capable I am of being fully in the now, especially with clients.
My best coaching sessions are the ones in which I am completely detached from the outcome, in which I let go of any sense of direction and offer my full presence to the client. In these moments, the present becomes clear, unclouded by the shadows of yesterday or the projections of tomorrow.
I know that whatever question or truth needs to come up will. This happens when there is no dwelling on the past and no ‘what ifs’ about the future.
