From school, to work, to spirituality, we’re constantly told to strive for the next best thing. To work hard, so that we can get to the next level, find happiness, be enlightened.
But only if you’re really diligent.
Then the next level will finally be your key to more contentment.
I’ve written about the elusive “good future” so many times.
But what if it were already here? What if the key to more happiness was instead in doing absolutely nothing for a while – regularly?
Don’t believe me?
– Set your timer to 10 minutes and do nothing. No reading, no scrolling, not even drinking or eating anything. Just be.
– Or schedule an hour in your busy work schedule to do nothing. (Will your boss approve? If not, why not?)
What comes up?
Why I strongly advocate for more nothingness in all our lives:
– It allows you to finally feel how you’re truly doing. Energised or exhausted? Frustrated or happy?
– You can actively step back from problem-solving mode. The best solutions come when you don’t look for them.
Still not convinced? Perhaps you trust Albert Einstein:
“I think 99 times and find nothing. I stop thinking, swim in silence, and the truth comes to me.”
