In my last job, working days were often from 7am to 7pm, and sometimes weekends were filled with work too. It just never stopped and it felt like something was missing.
What I enjoyed most was spending time with my team. I saw it as ‘helping’ them. But in reality it was mostly taking the time to listen to them, to acknowledge them, to create a space where they could ‘just be’ for a moment.
And it was this that opened my eyes to where I am today.
At first I thought that coaching would also be about helping my clients in one way or another. My goal was to help my clients make work a better place.
But I’ve come to see that it’s not about help, it’s not about development, it’s not about improvement.
It’s about holding a safe space for awareness to emerge. A space where you as a leader can recognise your inherent worth and the worth of your team members and understand that ‘you are enough’, right now.
Coaching and awareness, I believe I can’t do one without the other.
